Introducing Charles River for Private Markets

In an effort to simplify our branding and how we represent ourselves to our clients and the general marketplace, we are retiring the Mercatus brand and introducing a new name for our front and middle office technology solution for private markets: Charles River for Private Markets.

This rebrand will streamline our conversations with prospective clients, especially those that are increasingly looking for holistic solutions across their public and private portfolios.

Mercatus co-founder Tim Buchner is the head of this new business unit and the team that was formerly known as Mercatus is now fully integrated into Charles River. As part of this rebranding, we’ve simplified our homepage navigation on CRD.com to reflect our three core offerings: Charles River for Investment Managers, Charles River for Private Markets, and Charles River for Wealth. The Mercatus website now redirects to CRD.com.

It’s important to note that this change does not impact the broader State Street Alpha offering. Charles River for Private Markets is the technology that powers State Street Alpha for Private Markets for clients that are seeking front-to-back solutions for managing their investment data, similar to how Charles River IMS powers Alpha.

Private Markets remains an important growth opportunity for Charles River and State Street, which was a primary reason why we acquired Mercatus in 2021 to complement our technology solution for investors in the public markets. Charles River for Private Markets is an investment data management solution serving the unique needs of institutional investors in private equity, private debt, real estate, infrastructure, and funds. The platform services more than $2 trillion in assets across 25,000 investments by its clients¹.

We’re excited to further establish our footprint within Private Markets with the launch of Charles River for Private Markets and to continue building relationships with institutions investing in this sector.
