Technical Writer

As a technical writer, the successful candidate will work closely with our writing and engineering staff to develop and write online documentation for our Investment Management System product. This includes planning, researching and writing, editing, and testing online systems. Typically, works on assignments that encompass all documentation for a particular feature or module, and/or, on major sections of content. Works independently, manages multiple project assignments, with minimal supervision. Provides input to team/department strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, research, organize, write, edit, and test online documentation and user manuals ensuring that they are technically accurate and conform to the company’s style.
  • Develop new information based on engineering specs, project meetings, interviews, and feedback; revise existing documentation as needed.
  • Maintain close communication with developers, quality assurance, product managers, and other project team members.
  • Define scope of own work and estimate/monitor work/time requirements.
  • Modify plan and meet delivery requirements in spite of scope changes and tight deadlines.
  • Determine the use of illustrations. Work independently to plan and develop illustrations.
  • Manage the technical review process to ensure content accuracy and completeness. Make appropriate changes and checks prior to delivery.
  • Perform developmental edits, copy edits, and self-edits based on internal and professional writing standards.
  • Prepare and provide weekly project activity/status reports. Advise manager of conflicts/issues and participate in their resolution.
  • Participate in setting standards for department projects, training/mentoring personnel, and investigating/recommending tools to meet objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Documentation Team Lead.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ year’s professional technical writing experience.
  • Experienced in authoring/designing sophisticated help systems for the software industry.
  • Experienced at taking a documentation project from conception through delivery.
  • Solid experience creating Help in a Windows environment, and creating HTML pages and HTML Help.
  • Experience with the RoboHelp authoring tool.
  • Experience with document source control systems a plus, specifically RoboSource.
  • Prefer experience in a financial application environment.
  • Prefer experience with n-tier architectures.
  • Prefer experience in database and SQL.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a related major.
