Director of Engineering


Summary:

The Director of Engineering will oversee up to 40+ software developers working on various product areas of the Charles River IMS. 


We employ 170+ of the top engineers in the software industry so this is an opportunity to work with a very strong, senior level engineering team and help to develop challenging new products in the financial space.  This position reports directly to the CEO.


Responsibilities:
  • Direct management of a team of 40+ Software Engineers and QA Engineers, across 5 scrum teams
  • Lead in the development and delivery of large scale, complex applications (Java/C# technology)
  • Integrate business strategies and objectives to develop the overall technology roadmap for cutting edge tools in support of portfolio and wealth management areas
  • Drive best practices in development and delivery through the use of Agile and help set standards that can be leveraged in other areas of the company
  • Ensure product delivery is of a high quality with each and every release
  • Lead Design efforts to ensure all code developed is scalable and performant in order to handle large data volumes efficiently
  • Oversee system Performance team for measuring and monitoring system performance and identifying risk areas
  • Work closely with architecture team to organize and participate in architecture reviews, develop practices and ensure standards and roadmaps are adhered to
  • Mentor, coach, and develop a high performing engineering team
  • Work with customers to ensure client needs are well served
  • Work closely with the Product Management and others on requirements, project management, and scheduling
  • Work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment similar to a start-up company

Requirements:
  • MUST possess a BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent
  • 15 or more years of commercial software development experience, proficient in developing multi-tier solutions
  • Minimum 7 years of management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to provide vision and direction to engineering teams
  • Capable of driving practical and tactical results in addition to developing strategic product roadmaps
  • Ability to understand and work with complex code
  • Technical experience includes strong GUI and Java server-side experience
  • Architectural skills highly desirable. Strong with OO design and development
  • Product delivery experience: have been key in developing and supporting commercial software products which were sold to non-technical customers in vertical markets
  • Experience developing applications for the financial markets a very strong plus
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) are critical to the role
